Greatest Ever Team
  Jason Wilcox

jim mk2 - For me, though, the most under-rated and best of them all is Jason Wilcox for his outstanding service to the club from 1989-99 and vital contributions to the promotion- winning team of 1991-92 and the championship team of 1994-95. Ask Shearer who he'd like on the wing serving the ball up on a plate.

Wilcox gets my vote.

Tango - Wilcox has been one of my favourite players in my time watching Rovers and what really annoys me - and epitomises the England selection process - is how he received so few England caps (if any?) while playing for Rovers, then got transferred from our reserve team to Leeds United and instantly got a call up. mad.gif

I think I'll vote for him too, even though Duff was a fabulous player.

bob fleming - The crowds favourite. Would run all day for the team and would deliver cracking early crosses which Shearer invariably found himself on the end of.

speeeeeedie - Wilcox was one player who, like Atkins, made a name for himself under Dalglish. When he first came onto the scene it was out of necessity as Mackay had no other players. He'd signed Alan Irvine, but he got injured so Wilcox got to play right wing; he was pants. For the first few years the crowd would dog him constantly for giving the ball away, running up the wing then stopping and passing it backwards. He got progressively better and was an integral part of the Dalglish-Harford system, along with Ripley, to get balls in the box for Shearer. His torment of Mel Sterland when we battered Leeds (reigning champions) at Christmas time 1992 will stand forever. He ran him ragged. Also, I've mentioned on here before that when Wilcox got injured during our title run in it took the rails off our game. If he'd have been fit we would have won the title a week or two before Liverpool. He was different than the other three in that he didn't have the skill level but he had the work rate, determination and brain to know his role and do it well. He was good but the fact that he got dropped for, and eventually sold because of, a young Duff speaks voulmes about the Irishman.

waggy - wilcox was a particular favourite off mine. The 1st game I saw him play he beat his man with ease and crossed into the darwen end terrace. This continued all the game. Under Dalglish he became more composed and laid on many of Shearer's goals..
