Greatest Ever Team
  Alan Shearer
Page: 1, 2,
Tris - I share three attributes with Alan Shearer. We're the same height, we both play up front, and we both love our football clubs to bits. If I'd had the chance to play at the same level as him - and a call came in from Rovers offering top notch wages and the number 9 shirt at Ewood - I'd have quit any team in the world to wear that shirt.

I wish he'd stayed longer, but it wasn't to be. I wish Rovers had got recognition for letting him have an early operation so he'd be fit for Euro 96, but we're used to being ignored.

The long and short is that the best ever player since the new Premier League was formed was our player and had his best times in our blue and white shirt. Nobody can change that, and Alan Shearer will rightly be a fixture in every "best ever" Rovers team until the world implodes. .

Alan75 - The best striker I suspect recognised by all, even non Rovers supporters will be Shearer

Brownie - I'd select Shearer in a World XI, never mind Rovers.

tcj_jones - I would find it difficult to find a handful of people in the history of football that were/are better strikers than Shearer. Even at 34 he is easily amongst the top strikers in the world.

I will listen to other peoples opinions and hear the cases of the other candidates, but it will take something extraordinary to change my mind on this one.

Ste B - Alan Shearer..

Lets stop wasting time and start the vote now for his strike partner.

philipl - Shearer- statistically must be getting towards being one of the top if not the top striker in English football since the war.

Will anyone ever equal scoring over 30 goals in three consequetive Premiership seasons?

roversismylife - Without a doubt Shearer was one of the best players I've ever seen.

Duff's Minder - of course Shearer is our greatest striker, but it is worth mentioning just HOW good he was when playing for us. He's done an incredible job at keeping up his scoring rate at Newcastle but at Rovers, before he did his Knee in he was simply the best player I have ever seen in the flesh.

I saw him play a couple of games for us where he was our best defender, midfielder and goal-scorer all at once. Tackling back deep in midfield, claiming defensive headers at corners and slamming home goals. The guy was incredible.

If anyone has ever won a Chamionship single handed it was him in '95. Of course it's a team game but just like Maradona in '86 he was a genius surrounded by honest, hard working proffessionals.

Coupled with that he turned down United twice and only left us to go to his home-town club for a (then) enormous fee.

What more can we ask?

BigDom - he is/and probably always will be the greatest goalscorer our club will ever have

millionpints - the best striker I have seen in the flesh. He was so good that on the rare occasion when he missed you were absolutely flabberghasted

waynerockett - Shearer is a must, the question is Alan or Duncan??

Friarsnig - My first choice can't be anyone else other than Alan Shearer. He was absolutely brilliant. He could have played almost anywhere on the pitch and been a great. But, he was playing in a very good side, which helped.

Simon Garners 194 - We had possibly the best striker in Europe @ '95 at Ewood in Alan Shearer...at his worst he was simply devastating infront of goal.I had never seen, and very likely will never see again a player with such ability in our famous blue'n' white......I thank my lucky stars I was able to witness every goal he scored at Ewood. Despite serious injury and the passage of time the man continues to do the business for Newcastle....I have nothing but admiration.

Ianrally - My number one vote has to go to Alan Shearer of course. The greatest accolade to him is that we always expected him to score as soon as he got the ball anywhere near the opposition penalty area. Indeed it came as a massive shock if he missed. The greatest Rovers player I will see or have ever seen.

Cheshireblue - It's a no brainer that Shearer was always going to walk away with this. For my money the best player we ever had, and probably still the best striker I have ever seen.

mhead - On this one if I had a 100 votes they would all go for Big Al. Those 4 Seasons we had him were so exciting and the VE Night game with Shearer scoring from Le Saux's scooped cross my strongest memory from 1800 games since the late 50s.

trawdenblue - Shearer, simply because he is the greatest striker I have ever seen in a Rovers' shirt
